Move on already
Recently I was at a book talk where a longtime Ohio Republican stated that he was a “Bob Taft republican.” I rolled my eyes.
Bob Taft was a former governor of Ohio (who also held a number of other political offices), and what I’d assume would be considered “establishment republican.” While I appreciated that this man has not lost his mind, and wants to publicly separate himself from the current insanity, I think he and the country would be better served if people of like minds with him fully realized that they no longer have a political party. At that point, they can build something new, but also build a party that believes in democracy rather than grift and authoritarianism.
I don’t think the Republican party will ever go back to how it was. Its members need to accept that and move on already.
P.S. Our current VP could not name Bob Taft’s great-grandfather, who was an Ohio-born president.
