Get off
As I’ve said before, I’ve always been a late adopter to most things, including social media. There were times I’d waste too much time looking at posts of people I only vaguely knew, or short videos of red pandas or corgis being cute. After a while it became boring for me, plus I felt a little creepy looking at vacation photos from people I hadn’t talked to in real life for years, so it wasn’t hard last year when Meta, along with a whole lot of other big tech, got cozy with this regime.
There are a handful of people, that I actually know, whose posts I miss, but what I don’t miss is people showing me who they really are. Just before I stopped logging on, a former college friend posted an article about this regime getting rid of DEI policies. He wasn’t for this, but basically preaching to the already converted. Another former classmate of ours loved this post, and from my brief check out of her page, she supports this regime. It startled me for a moment, but only a moment. I guess I still want to believe educated liberal arts majors aren’t vile. Naive, I know.
There are more and more reasons everyday to Resist and Unsubscribe. Reading this article this morning, I’m pretty glad I mostly got off Meta last year (I briefly checked and responded to birthday wishes). Be careful out there online. It’s clear the tech titans are not going to save you.
